Sunday the 12th Andrew Anderson and I made the long drive from Kirksville to Sikeston. It's about a 6.5 hour drive and we got in here about 7:30pm. We share a house with a married couple of 3rd year students and they have been really friendly and helpful. Anderson lucked out and his preceptorship is directly behind our house. (literally 100 yards away). I however, get to drive a stickshift jeep 10 minutes south. that doesn't sound too bad until you find out that I last tried to learn how when I was 17. It's been .... scary.
My Preceptor is awesome and while Family Practice is not super exciting it has been good so far. She takes the time to explain different drugs and abbreviations that I am not familiar with, and when I have felt dumb, it is usually because we haven't cover that subject, or I have forgotten it. (Not because she is trying to make me feel dumb.)
My favorite case Monday: -->Man with Bronchitis
Patient: Yeah I do really bad when it's cold
10 year old daughter: It's always cold since dads girlfriend Crystal came to live with us. She always has the AC on.
Patient: Anyways my chest has been hurting when I cough
Daughter: I (loudly) think it's cause he smokes so much.
Patient: *quiets Daughter*
His daughter was so cute about it, and here was a grown man looking increadibly sheepish as his daughter called him out for the live in girlfriend and smoking. It's funny how people act when they are caught doing something they know is wrong.
